Pink Shirt Day

  • Rural Family Connections 8243 Victoria Street Ottawa, ON, K0A 2P0 Canada (map)

Pink Shirt Day is Canada's national Anti-Bullying Day, established after two grade 12 students in Berwick, Nova Scotia, purchased and encouraged others to wear pink shirts in support of a fellow student who was bullied for wearing one. The majority of students showed up the next day in pink, leading to the establishment of Pink Shirt Day. Nova Scotia declared the second Thursday of September as "Stand Up Against Bullying Day" in 2007, and British Columbia declared February 27th as the provincial anti-bullying day in 2008. The movement gained international recognition, and May 4th was declared Anti-Bullying Day by the United Nations in 2012.
